Where

St. John’s is involved in a number of local, regional, and national mission, non-profits, etc. If you’re looking for a way to serve others, St. John’s can help get your connected! Here are the different opportunities offered to serve!

Clothes Closet

Clothes Closet volunteers are grateful for the opportunity to serve God by serving our neighbors. We take great care to assure that donations are displayed in an organized way using “store hangers” and size markers. We want our clients to leave the Clothes Closet with the clothing they need as well as their spirits lifted. Approximately a dozen volunteers work each Wednesday sorting, sizing, hanging, folding and displaying items that have been donated as well as assisting clients and helping with check-in/check-out. Most volunteers are members of St. John’s but others are welcome to come and work alongside our experienced volunteers.

Donation Hours:

Clean, gently used items for men, women and children, along with household items (sheets, towels, blankets) are accepted at our back door (305 E. John St.)

Mondays 8:30 – 11:00 and Wednesdays 9:00-noon.

Happy Helpers

Missionally focused on our senior church members, this group of happy helpers are here to help with small house projects, picking up donations for our clothes closet, and being helping hands to others.

Rebuild Upstate

In 2015 St Johns UMC launched our first Rebuild Upstate team with two projects in Anderson County. Rebuild Upstate is repairing homes, rebuilding our communities, and restoring dignity to low-income people across Upstate South Carolina. All are welcome to come volunteer for any project and embrace the opportunity to be the working hands of Christ

Hospitality Team

A loving group of folks that keeps up with all visitors and new members. They are a “well oiled” machine that has a heart for congregational care. With their list of visitors and new members, they write follow up letters to visitors and make/deliver homemade goodies to new members.

Family Promise

Our volunteers at St. John’s UMC.Each and everyone willing to donate time and love are an intricate part of this organization. Everything that you all do such as giving your time, shopping, planning, staying overnight, cooking, loving, advising, sharing information about the program with others, is priceless to this ministry. The volunteers are committed, inspired, and loving. Take the opportunity to this group to really show the love of God to our guests while creating a real “family and home” atmosphere.

South Main Mercy Center

So many ways to show love to others in our community. This church has several opportunities to serve those in need. One mission of this church is to provide a meal to their members. By preparing and serving lunch on Sunday mornings, they mission, love and commune with about 75 people. Another is providing snacks on Thursdays. They also provide a free clinic. Ask Chip how you can get involved!

Greeting Ministry

Love interacting with people and getting to know the faces of St John’s?! Then this group is for you! This a newer group that meets Sunday mornings and welcomes everyone to St John’s. With coffee and a warm smile, you will have the opportunity to fellowship with all entering the church, help visitors with directions around the church, and make new friends.

Prayer Group

1 John 5:14: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” – The power of prayer can do things beyond what we can imagine. We are told to pray fervently, continuously, and humbly. This special group collects pray requests, prays for those requests said and unsaid, and provides someone each weekday for prayers.
