SHC has been operating for over 30 years by providing services, resources, and support to help rebuild lives in Somerville and Greater Boston
In 1985, our local community created the SHC in a grassroots effort to address the social crisis of homelessness. Neighbors, community activists, university students, faith-based leaders, business supporters, and city officials united to make the SHC’s first endeavor — the city’s first emergency shelter for homeless adults — a reality.
