Welcome to the Kingston United Methodist Church (KUMC) Clothes Closet Mission!
Mission statement: Kingston United Methodist Church is a welcoming, loving community, which trust God, seeks to live like Jesus, and serves others.
The Clothes Closet is our best offering of serving others in Kingston, TN and the surrounding community. We serve the general public and especially people in need. Our goal is to provide a hand-up and or a hand-out with the donated clothing, household items and furniture we receive.
The KUMC Clothes Closet is a non-profit entity of Kingston UMC which works in cooperation with other churches in the community. The KUMC Clothes Closet is located on the block between South Kentucky Street, West Race Street, West Church Street and Watts Bar Lake Kingston. Here at the Clothes Closet we accept donations of all clothes and household goods including furniture, electrical and electronic appliances etc., providing a source of reasonably priced merchandise to the community in need. Our proceeds are managed by the Board of the Clothes Closet and help a number of organizations throughout the Kingston, TN and surrounding Roane County area.
About 700 items a day are processed by the store volunteers. About 120 tons of clothing, toys, books, & shoes are outsourced to Atlanta Recycling who in turn provides goods to the greater Atlanta area. As of 2019, 27% of all cash register sales go to a group of missions and 20% of all processed clothes, small house hold goods, and furniture are gifted to regional people in need. The gifted outreach includes about 1200 individuals and 71 recorded mission groups. Our ongoing goal is to annually increase both the mission cash and goods gifting percentages through optimum processing and overhead operations.
