OUR IMMEDIATE CHARITABLE OBJECTIVES ARE TO:

Provide assistance with utility bills where necessary.

Provide companionship for those without friends and relatives.

Lead and counsel those who need reassurance of their future

Q How can I help?

Donations of money and food can be made to our service facility at 824 Hoffman Street in Hammond. We will provide receipts for tax purposes. Food donations may be dropped off at the pantry (use rear door in parking lot - ring buzzer) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Building is Closed every Friday.

We need volunteers to help in our food pantry. Volunteers should call Jasper Nanevie at 219-932-4800. Just let him know that you want to help.

Q What does GHCS need to continue to serve the Greater Hammond Community?

The first and most important item is local monetary donations. This means that GHCS must provide a proportionate amount of money to utilize these funds, often as much as 50% or more. We receive the Agency funds after we spend the funds we have collected from Local sources. Local sources come from individual donors, churches, area businesses and other area organizations.

We serve a large contingent of needy and elderly people and this requires a large number of volunteers. Greater Hammond Community Services has only 3 full time employees on it's payroll however, approximately 700 people volunteer to help each year. Food and personal toiletries are needed on a continuing basis.
