Memphis has a lot of hungry people. In fact, in 2011, a Gallup poll indicated that Memphis had more “food insecure” people — that is, people who didn’t know where their next meal was coming from — than any other city.
Since then, we have been doing something about it! Through the Cafe Congo Community Lunch, the food pantry and our community garden, we are providing over 31,000 meals a year, and groceries for over 11,500 families a year. With community support, we continue to make a significant impact in reducing hunger. Come see how you can help!
Monday through Friday, from 10:00am - 12:00pm, folks come by for a lunch. We serve about 600 people each week! Food is donated by local restaurants and schools, or prepared by volunteers using food from the Midsouth Food Bank and additional groceries that we purchase. We are proud to say that the first thing we serve to each person who comes is respect!
Rather than distributing groceries just once a month, we are now open on Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm. We offer a variety of foods from the Midsouth Food bank and serve about 225 families each week.
