AL’s (Assistance League’s) Closet

Assistance League of Las Vegas has recognized the tremendous increase in need for immediate, emergency clothing, especially in the low income, at-risk schools. To meet this emergent need for adequate school clothing, AL’s Closet was developed in January, 2009. AL’s Closet is designed to be a supplemental clothing program which provides clothing directly to at-risk Clark County schools in low income neighborhoods. This school-based program will never be a replacement for Operation School Bell®, but is an enhancement program allowing us to reach more children in need.

Because Assistance League wants to serve children in most need, each school has a budget of $1,500 per year for clothing and essentials for their AL’s Closet. An Assistance League volunteer tracks the budget for each school and notifies the school counselor of their remaining balance.

In addition to new clothing, we are able to donate items from our Thrift Shop. Children’s clothing is not sold in our Thrift Shop but it does arrive at our doorstep in the form of donations. These gently used items are bagged (25 items of various sizes and genders) and delivered to our AL’s Closet schools for children in need.
