Helping Hands Mission & Vision

Helping Hand’s Mission is to nourish our community with kindness and respect without judgment.

Helping Hand’s Vision is to address the inequity of food bank experiences in Skagit County and make sure every citizen has access to high-quality food resources. 

Who We Are

We are Skagit County’s largest direct emergency food provider. In 2019 we distributed over 3 million pounds of food to over 161,000 individuals.

In 2019 we served an average of 750 families each week, 1,200 C.H.O.W (Cutting Hunger On Weekend) food bags a week, and 100 Mobile Food Boxes a week, and handed out over 2 Million Dollars’ worth of food throughout the year. Over 51% of our clients are either children or seniors.  As well, 2% of our participants are veterans, and 1% identify as LGBTQ+. Many are working, yet are unable to meet their families’ basic needs, including food.

Our open floor layout allows participants to “shop” the food bank rather than just be handed a box of food each week, giving families fresh options and assisting with dietary restrictions.  Thanks to our incredible donors and volunteers, Helping Hands is able to open the food bank four days a week, including Friday evenings, allowing all the ability to participate and receive food.

We are making a positive difference for local families, and our community as a whole.  Helping Hands is more than a food bank – we are a solution center. Helping Hands has a DSHS trained person on staff that can help participants sign up for much-needed assistance, as well as offer Job Training and Internships.  Helping Hands also participates in Grocery Rescue six days a week, eliminating approximately 22 carbon footprints each month. Helping Hands Solution Center also offers community resource classes and seminars ranging from job training to nutrition.

As a nonprofit organization, Helping Hands Solution Center network with local food providers and community organizations in order to provide the best services possible. We are only able to provide the support we give because of the generous support from our community.
