Besides traditional food banking, the Food Bank of Iowa operates four successful programs:
BackPack Program™ – The program serves more than 5,000 low income children each week at 143 sites in 31 Iowa counties with sacks of child friendly, easy-to-prepare foods for weekends.
Help Us Stop Hunger (HUSH) program – A collaborative effort among Iowa deer hunters, Iowa’s food banks, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Through this program we provide high-quality protein to Iowans struggling with hunger.
School Pantry Program – Our School Pantry Program provides a convenient supply of food in 91 school locations that are comfortable and convenient for kids in need and their families in 31 counties.
Mobile Pantry Program – A mobile pantry is a farmers market style distribution targeted toward counties with a need for additional pantry assistance.
